Who ate my clutch cable?

So I am heading out for a cruise, when I hear this weird POP, POP, POP noise when I push in the clutch. I pull over, reach up under than to see WTF, and cut my fingers on the sharp ends of the broken cable. :rage: So I limp home on what was left of the cable, praying for it to not snap completely.

After a quick analysis... it appears that my POS MM clutch quadrant does not line up properly with the Steeda firewall adjuster. This caused the cable to rub, and eventually snap. :(

MM's clutch stuff is junk.... I originally ordered their quad and FA thinking they would be quality pieces, but I was wrong. During the install I realized the FA was junk so I scraped it for the Steeda, and now I am gonna change that to the Fiore.

But I already had the quadrant in, and figured I would just replace it with the Steeda quick release later on. Well I guess later is now! Damnit.

Ohh well... Hopefully it is not out of commission for long.

Make sure the cable rides in the middle of the quadrant groove. Shim the quadrant if necessary [it will be with the Steeda quick release and since they don't provide anything to shim it, you will need some washers or something like that. I have the Fiore adjuster and Steeda quick release quadrant. It's a little tougher to push the pedal due to the revised geometry but the clutch engages higher and faster allowing great shifts. Power shifting is a piece of cake.

Yeah the MM quad required washers too... so I already have a few. Thanks for the tips!

Glad you made it home OK!!

I hate to ask in your time of disaster, but could you save the old cable and its pieces for me?

We are working on a slight revision to the clutch mod and it may help. It is just a sizing issue, nothing that affects operation or performance.

We, meaning Cliff, probably could pick it up or we could send money to pay for postage.

Thanks a lot,

Dan

I'm at home working on business proposals for a homeowner's townhome complex and Wilton Partners [Tollway Oases]. I can't be out washing every day. Plus... I HAVE NO CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p

I could have used that thermostat a couple nights ago...

Seriously, Lyle says he can meet Carl after work tonight if that is OK. Lyle is on 2nd shift this week. 4PM-midnight or something like that.
