DarkSS, you seem to be forgetting lap times around road courses. The whole 1/4 mile thing seems to be a mute point nowadays, nobody much cares about that anymore, it's all about which car can run around the track faster because this is a better indicator of acceleration, braking and handling. The 5.0 smokes the Camaro in that aspect.

Very true, when the road gets curvy that heavy camaro isn't going to like going around those corners. Compare some times on the nurburgring. the 2010 camaro SS beats out a cobalt SS/TC by 2 seconds. Thats how much more power than a cobalt?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/N%C3%BCrburgring_lap_times

More weight hurts all aspects of the car and GM had to put brembo brakes on the base ss to stop the car in a safe distance. Imagine standard run of the mill breaks on a heavy ass 400hp camaro. Yikes!

I am still yet to see a 5.0 run a mid 12 and haven't been dominated by one on the street. The mustang does benefit over the Camaro because it doesn't have a big brother, like the Vette, to take a back seat to. That's why the Boss and Boss LS are so great. But on the flip side the Mustang has been updated for the last 7 years, the Camaro has not had any updates other than HUD since it came out. Still it takes a mustang with a higher gear option to run faster times, what happens if a gear become available from GM? With the HP numbers and weight disadvantage, the mustang should have a bigger advantage.
You pretty much hit the nail on the head right there. Ferrari put 6.33 gears in the Enzo to make it that fast around a circuit. They make an option with 3.23 gears also, it's called "Kia Sportage".

the only camaro that has a chance around a circuit vs a boss is the SSX, and that will never see production. the camaro is far too heavy to corner, let alone corner better than a new mustang.

netchem, why not buy one of these new mustangs instead of posting about them on the internet. then, you too can destroy corvettes, ferraris, space ships, and whatever else you come across.

All depends on how you equip the mustang. Here is Camaro skidpads and slaloms that are better than the mustang. We're not talking about a 1-2 second difference on a road coarse here. The mustang doesn't "destroy" the Camaro like all of make it our to be. I have said in almost every post in this thread that the Camaro needs suspension tweaks and a taller gear. All of that = better track times. I don't auto cross my car, I go to the track and get in the occasional stop light race. I would guess there are a lot more people who car about straight line acceleration over auto X numbers.

I don't know how much more credit I can give the Boss, look at my posts about it. I'm not knocking the standard GT either. I have admitted that it's faster than the SS every time, just not by this huge margin that constitutes as "destroying". To say the mustang is incredible is true, but then to not give credit to the Camaro is stupid. They are as closely matched since the early 90's. Can't go wrong with either car, I would never buy a mustang though. I'm waiting for the numbers, and not just opinions like "it has a better interior" to show me where the Camaro gets destroyed.

The new Mustang is a beast. No doubt about it.

I do find it funny that in yesteryears, Stang fans bragged about how much better Stangs sold even though they were inferior performance wise to Camaro and Firebird. Now its reverse, and it doesnt seem to matter. Very interesting.

40g mustang no thx.

The camaro might be slower, but also according to MT it beat the Exige, The 370Z, 135i, EVO X, 335i, S2000, and Rx8. All cars considerd to have "handled better".

False...

http://www.mazdaraceway.com/pages/ne...m?r=9AO69ZETED

"The #15 1970 Ford Boss 302 that Parnelli Jones drove to three wins, including one at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca will be joining the Trans-Am featured race. "

Ford didn't design the Boss for Laguna Seca. There is history behind it.

Jesus Christ, I understand that, ALL I AM ASKING, is that I'd like to see its numbers on a different track compared to the same cars as Laguna..... I'd happily eat my hat and hope it does better.

But wouldn't it show tail lights to a new 5.0, or are they too magical to get beaten by anything? Oh and though I partially agree with your statement you should add "stock" to that. I think I know of a few new Camaros that might surprise you around here.

This!!!!

Yes I am curious as well to see what it'll do at other tracks but wake the fuck up people. It has adjustable suspension for this reason of going to other tracks and for being driven on the street.
