mustang just seems like a better overall car to me.. and having a back seat doesn't hurt either. the whole two seater thing is just a bit much for me.

the car has whats called the "Leguna Seca" Package on it, and they used this track specifically for developing the suspension and driveline.

I don't understand how a car with an adjustable suspension will only be good at one track. The name commemorates an important win at Laguna Seca back in the day of Trans Am racing. I'm sure it will do just fine at other tracks with proper know-how and adjustability

Here we go again. Please define spank?? So far if you compare records the 5.0 is 1/10 faster. Yes the Boss is it's own league, faster than the SS but probably slower than the ZL1. The Z28 will hopefully slot in as competition. Also show me where the ZL1 weighs 4000lbs. It's all speculation at this point. It will be nice to have a lighter 6th gen and a GenV LS engine but the 5th gen is not a bad platform. Needs suspension tweaks and a gear to stay right at or ahead of the 5.0

Larger interior
Larger trunk
Lighter
Better MPG
Thousands Cheaper
Faster Passing times *30-50, 50-70* by 2 full seconds
Brakes faster
Handles better nearly across the board

And all of that with a WORSE weight distribution, and a solid rear axle....

Looks like C+D Says the manual camaro edges out the manual mustang on the drag strip, is a hair quieter inside... aaaaaand thats it.

I would qualify that as a spanking...

*edit*

and the current V-6 mustang is better in everything previously mentioned ontop of being faster and still cheaper than the V-6 camaro as well....

The zl1 is a gt500 competitor.

GM needs to step up their game. Ford put the Camaro on the failboat.

Thousands cheaper??? Try again. A new GT with bembo's and a 3.73 (needed to edge out the Camaro in braking and acceleration) costs about $1500 more. Not to mention the base models are both @ 30K and the Camaro comes standard with brembo brakes and summer tires.

I couldn't care less about the V6.

Don't tell that to the general public. The Camaro continues to outsell the mustang.

In Das' defense, he never said it would be a bad street car, even in the quotes.

We are talking performance.

GM has a lot of years of Camaro enthusiasts that were waiting for this car. I expect that there will be a drop off in the next year or so like we saw with the Mustang.

"Numbers sell Cars" This is no different than a company claiming their car is fastest on the nurburgring when it did ALL its testing there..... Wooo?

That excuse is over man, I've had my car for 2 years at the end of this month. Everyone said that last year along with "mustang fans are waiting for the 5.0" and look what happened. All that, mind you, without a convertible or GT500 fighter. With the vert just hitting the streets and the ZL1 a year away I don't see the mustang winning the sales battle for another couple years.

As far as performance goes, the Camaro made the mustang look stupid for a very long time and for this year the mustang is a true competitor and has won this battle by the slimmest of margins. I am really interested to see how Chevy responds with a couple tweaks for 2012.

The Camaro is a fresh design and the Mustang was introduced in calendar year 2004. The 11+ Mustang is dominating the Camaro in terms of performance. To say otherwise is ignoring the data. GM failed when they built such a heavy vehicle. They also are years behind Ford Racing in suspension development/tuning. Like I said above, the Mustang is great because of the FR500/Boss 302 R program much like the Z06/ZR1 are great because of what Chevy learned from the C6.R.

I used to be a big Vette guy and still respect them, but the whole bankruptcy thing turned me off to GM.

I'm just not seeing the dominating aspect of it. Is it faster? Yes, but not in a dominating sense. I guess I see where a lot of people get the performance numbers from because most 5th gen owners at the track can't drive the car for shit and run mid-high 13's. I am still yet to see a 5.0 run a mid 12 and haven't been dominated by one on the street. The mustang does benefit over the Camaro because it doesn't have a big brother, like the Vette, to take a back seat to. That's why the Boss and Boss LS are so great. But on the flip side the Mustang has been updated for the last 7 years, the Camaro has not had any updates other than HUD since it came out. Still it takes a mustang with a higher gear option to run faster times, what happens if a gear become available from GM? With the HP numbers and weight disadvantage, the mustang should have a bigger advantage.
