my suburban has 300 hp + its not quick. this is as quick as 75% of stock fbodys at the track with less hp... and a v6. stop being silly and realize its pretty sweet.

Don't compare a suburban to a mustang. The LS1 Fbody can be 13 years old now. Id expect with today's tech a motor with 2 cylinders less can have 300HP and run similar times. Nissan had 300HP V6's for a few years now right? It is pretty sweet compared to the performance of previous V6 mustangs, im just saying it should be expected from a 300HP+ car.

The new V6's are getting it done. A few years ago low 13's were hallowed ground reserved to modded foxbodies and LS1's. There was a guy on Camaro5 that ran a 12.0 @ 113 with a 2010 V6 w/ bolt-on's and a 125 shot.

Panda is hating hardcore.

This is a relatively cheap 300+ hp car that gets great mpg and actually handles well (see C&D’s Lightning Lap). Ford could bump the factory hp even more if they added direct injection and played around with the factory calibration to tune for premium fuel.

I laughed at this guy when he said that he "smoked" a 5.0 in his '96 LT1 auto Corvette that is stock with the exception of a catback.

Today's Mustang is a pretty good car. I'm not a Ford fan but I think they built a winner with this one.

I'm pretty sure the 5.0 has a 93 tune and has a default map for 87 that pulls out timing.

Someone was bound to advance engine technology, the LS1 is 15 years old already.

According to Harrison, a lot of effort was expended on the engine management system. The adaptive spark control system keeps the engine running right on the knock sensor all the time, continuously adjusting the spark advance to avoid detonation regardless of the fuel used. The control system has a high bandwidth air-fuel control algorithm to make sure that it's both responsive and efficient. The 5.0 has also benefited from work done on the Fusion Hybrid by incorporating aggressive deceleration fuel shut-off. Whenever the throttle is released, fuel flow is shut off completely to improve efficiency.

These are pretty trick engine management systems in the newer Fords. You can even read the engines A/F ratio through an OBD scanner.
