FINALLY got the old Cobra Engine Apart.

Before I yanked the original engine, my friend halped me diagnose the noise was coming from the very back of the engine on the drivers side. To be expected because thats the farthest away from the oil pump.

So after being on a stand for 11 months, I flipped it over, removed the pan windage tray and oil pump pick-up, I went straight for the back rod.

BINGO! :biggthump

Check out how subtle the problem is. The upper rod bearing slid over about 1/8" because the alignment tab degraded:

Make sure it didn't do any damage to the side of the crank. I had something similar happen and it eventually caused the crankshaft to split in half.

This car did not spin the bearing and was babied as soon as the noise appeared.
In this case a new bearing will solve the problem.

Good for you man. Im the same with computers and laptops. Wish I knew as much about automechanics though. I would love to be able to do all my own work.

Is it possible for the bearing to shift like that without being misassembled? Looks the the other half was in place.

That sure looks like a factory fuck up.
I'm actually surprised the problem didn't surface sooner because of the added clearance between the rod and the rod cap.
