1998 Cobra Fan/Wire problem

My friend has a 1998 Cobra. The radiator fan seems to be working but the wire to it (black one) gets really hot. The connection of the wire to the fan has evedently gotten so hot from time to time that the connection is warped or changing shape from the heat. The wire and connection get super hot when fan is running but otherwise stay cool anytime fan is not engaged.
Stock engine, stock tune, nothing changed for the ranges/speed of the stock fan.
All the relays/fuses are good.
What is the common cause of this? The fan, the connection, the wire, something else electrical related?
Someone told me that you just change the connection, but wouldnt that only be treating the symptom and not the problem?

A poor connection within the connector plug can cause a higher than normal current draw on the circuit and through the connector. This increassed load through the connector could be enough to melt the plastics and add additional corrosion to the problem.
Try replacing the connector and see what happens. Can't be any worse.
Also, after you replace the connector, hook up a amp meter in series with the load and see just how much the fan is actually drawing. It could also be the source of the problem if it is about to fail.

Thank You.
I will start there.
