Default Help please!

I just changed out my alternator (PITA BTW) and now there is a louder than berfore whine under throttle. I used a metal pipe to listen to the alternator to make sure the bearings were not bad. It sounded fine and I moved around the engine bay listening to each area that has a pulley and I didn't hear any bearing noise from anything. Both my dad and I think it sounds like it's from the intake side of the blower I put the pipe on the snout side of the blower and it sounds fine too. Hoping someone can help. My vidoe camera is in Scottsdale with my wife so I can't take a video of it.

did you use the pulley off the old alt. or get a new one???

reason i ask is if its new it could just be wearing in some , burning off the paint , or the belt could be to tight

There is no paint on the new alt pulley. It's goldish color like new bolts have sometimes. The pulley is the exact same size as on the other alternator too. We put them on top of each other and they mathced exactly.

Same belt. How do I tell if it's too tight?

you should be able to push on the belt where it comes off the idler pulley up to the blower pulley on the passenger side ( not on the side you added the extra one for belt wrap) and be able to flex it about a 1/2 inch..it you cant flex it its too tight.

but are you sure your not hearing the blower pulley. those reichard no slip pulleys are loud

It's def louder than before. I'll check that belt tension but I don't know how that would have changed. All the pullies are the same as before and the size of the alt pulley is the same too.

yeah , i cant figure what would make the belt any tighter unless the alt. is slightly different but i doubt it..

im still putting my money on the reichard pulley .. some days i hear mine and some days i dont. but its definately louder when its cooler out
