Car shakes at 65+ MPH.

Well, I'm home on leave and have driven my car for the first time in two years! My dad hasn't driven it much since I've been gone. Well, when I drive her she shakes when I hit 65 MPH. It seems the faster I go the worse it gets. The weird thing is, if my foot is on the gas, it doesn't shake. But, when I took my foot off (stop accelerating) it shakes. I tried putting it in neutral to see if it had to do with the tranny and it still shook.

The shake feels like I'm driving over rumble strips.

Is it just a tire out of balance? Or, could it be something else?

was it sitting on its tires the whole time while you were away? If so, let the tires warm up and the flat spots will go away.

I'm more inclined to think its a bad wheel bearing though.

My dad drove it about once a month while I was gone, maybe once every month and a half sometimes. I drove the car for twenty minutes (you'd think the tires would be warmed up) and the car still shook.

I just don't get why it doesn't shake when my foots on the gas...makes no sense.

sounds like a bad wheel bearing. My old S4 did the same thing and it turned out to be a bad wheel bearing.

Throw a different set of tires on if you have or can get them and see if it goes away.

check your drive shaft and see if one of your weights came off it might need to be balance

Prob flat spotted the tires...

So many different things it can be, but the driveshaft is known to cause this issue as well. Something else to look into but i'd start with the tires.

I had one at 65-70mph on my 03, Tried EVERYTHING to get rid of it. Never did. I just cruised at 80-90mph and it went away.

Yeah, the problem is it gets WORSE after 65, meaning no speeding for me

How hard is it to check the wheel bearings?

I don't think it's the driveshaft, it doesn't have weights on it.

If it was the tires, you'd think it would do it when I was accelerating as well...

I took mine out after a month and a half of seating in same spot and it had a vibration but it went away after a while so def a flat spot on mine. Like that said guy said put diff tires and drive it again.

Thanks a lot! I really appreciate the offer, but unfortunately, I am back to living in Germany. I guess I will have to find out what is wrong with it in a couple years when I come home and see my car again :-o

well it can be the bearings and it can also be the tires could be out of balance i am missing a wheel weight on one of my front tires and it shakes a lil bit.
