Actually the purpose of the post was the announcement that the head of Ford Team RS of Europe was taking over management of SVT.

I agree, the Focus RS has been a kickass car for years capable of running rally races with only minor suspension mods:headbang:

Why!? Why must they water down EVERYTHING they bring over here?

And they wonder why they're failing. Nobody wants that shit. I'd rather have the new WRX.

Give us the real thing or just forget it!

I remember reading an article a few years back on the RS. They asked why not bring it to America and Fords reason was, "too expensive".

Looks like we are still not getting it here.

It's no secret that the Ford Focus sold in the rest of the world is a significantly better car than the Focus sold in North America. The world's Focus is, after all, based on the same advanced "C1" platform that underpins the Mazda3 and Volvo S40. Meanwhile we soldier forward with a Focus still built atop the same CW170 chassis that was introduced back in 2000. And in America, we have nothing like the upcoming Focus RS.

The new 2009 Focus RS follows a long line of RS (for "Rallye Sport") models going back through the old Escort RS1600 that established that car's rallying legend. But no previous RS has been quite as radical as the new one that features the 2.5-liter inline five from Volvo. It's turbocharged to the tune of about 300 hp. And it will push all that power out through front wheels alone.

It's bad enough that Ford won't send its best Focus over here. But why must it torture us with further beasts like the RS?

They haven't watered down anything, the Focus RS was always FWD. The advancements made with Revoknuckle will make people stop wondering if they should have gone 4wd. not to mention that 4wd would have been too expensive and weighed too much.

The RS still has a chance to come over, since Ford is reevaluating a more expensive sport compact since the market has swung that way.

5 years ago when the last SVT Focus came out the range topping one cost around 20k. Now you can option out a GTI or Mazdaspeed3 to be close to 30k. Even with inflation that is still a large price increase, and now with STIs and Evos pushing 40k there is much more wiggle room for a 25-30k sport compact to come into the scene.

Also, cobrafreak, what does the environment have to do with this, not all people want a car that can only go fast in a straight line.

FWD is less than ideal on a road course. AWD would have been a much better option coupled with modern electronics. The GTR's torque vectoring AWD system is largely responsible for the lap times you see it posting.

Yes, I completely agree that AWD is better but to keep weight and cost down FWD was the way to go. However, Ford has really done their homework on this one and I believe it will be a very compelling package for the money, it should not be knocked for not having AWD, thats my point
