what kind of difference between the namebrand dei stuff and the non-namebranded thing is there if any?

i've used the DEI stuff. i used it on my flex-pipe cause it was ticking. dont bother paying the extra money on black because it turns white after a while. i would suggest using the dei spray they have also to keep it from rotting.

I've got DEI wrap on my crossover for over a year now and it has faded in color, but is holding up great. I don't know how much it helps keep heat of the TB, but with the engine running i can hold the crossover pipe in my hand where touching the manifold would blister my skin.

Yup, http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/turbo_heat_shield_kit.php it was a little challenging to install on my stock tiny turbo. After about a year it is still solid, although a little discolored.

Looks good. However in the description it says T3/T4, but in the contents list it says universal turbo blanket I'd say it would probably fit well on any larger externally gated turbo, but if you have a internal gate, you might have to do some cutting.

Edit: As for material, I think they are all pretty much the same...

Definitely. I ran without any kind of heatshield over my turbo for a while. After WOT runs my top mount intercooler was heatsoaked and would burn me if I tried to touch it. After the blanket, not only could I touch the blanket, but my intercooler was cool to the touch.

I have never had the dei discolor on me. Just when you go to install it make sure you get it wet.
