Olddd Mitsubishi pickup as a beater?

Well today through the grapevine I heard about a little pickup truck for sale. It's a 1984 Mitsubishi (what I believe to be a Mighty-max) with a 5 speed manual and a 4 cylinder engine.

I am told it needs a fuel tank and a tune-up. Anyone know anything about these trucks? I'm going to go take a look at it tomorrow and see if it's worth grabbing and throwing a few bucks at to use for a beater. I have a need to haul engines, parts, home improvement supplies ETC but I don't need a large V8 4X4.

Sounds like the guy paid $350 for it three years ago. I figure I could offer him like $150 considering it needs work.

to my understanding those trucks have the 4G62? 1.8 liter IIRC?

They usually sell for big money if they are in even half way decent shape due to the demand of cheap, high mpg light trucks.

I'd snag it in a heartbeat if I were you assuming its not rusted-out.

Okay. Thats why I'm going to go take a look tomorrow. I am told it has "a little rust" but that's anyone's definition.

He said it has 180,000 on it and uses a little oil, but I am not overly concerned as it's not going to be a commuter.

So you are saying if it is in decent to good shape jump on it. I figure worst case I can sit on it for a while as I get the parts together.

a friend had a mighty max. it just kept on going and going. he finally just gave it away to some charity cause it pretty much rusted away.

you should buy it, then if the bed rusts out make your own. As long as the frame is good and your simple fab skills are up to snuff. Wouldn't look and weirder than the old man who lives by me with the 4cyl ranger and non-operating smoke stacks.

Hey guys I'm passin on it. I took a look and it needs a ton of work. It took forever for him to get it to run and then once he started driving it a brake line blew. If you guys want his phone number I can set ya up. Too much project for me.

Body is in decent shape but the frame is kinda rusty particularly under the hood.
