Trying to find my mom a cheap/reliable/easy to fix Automatic Sedan made in the past 20 years for under $1000 as I'm buying it for her.

I really don't want any more Honda's right now, Here's what I'm thinking for her. (bad driver, I'll be maintaining it)

1990-1994 Nissan Maxima
1996-99 Ford Taurus/Sable
95+ Nissan Altimas
92+ Honda Accords
96+ Malibu's?
94? + Escorts

any other ideas, Those are the only ones I've really been looking for

Again, 4 door, decent size, Air bags, Auto, FWD, Under a grand in running condition. (also, a 4 or 6 banger, no 8's, so no ex cop cars on the list, as much as I'd like to stuff her into one)

(and Reble GTP's Intrepid)

and again, for those curious, I still ended up giving the Toyota away for free to a friend, but My mother NEEDS a car with airbags and a decent size (and for the sake of my little sister), She has already managed to crash into the back of a truck in her accord out here after 3 days...

Das, you cant be picky when you want a running decent $1000 car... All those cars you listed are probably worth over $1000 unless they got tons of miles or in poor condition. I got a few rides for-sale but I cant do $1000 for any of them. Id say craigslist is your best bet.

what do you have?

I have found all of the cars listed Sans the Malibu for sub $1000 that are in running condition.

Let me re-itterate, It can look like shit, She drives into the city, and isn't a terribly good driver, its probably gonna get beat up anyways.

There is an accord that needs a lower control arm for $600 thats in great shape otherwise on chitown, There is a tan Taurus with 118K on it with nothing wrong for $1000 in St. Charles, I can keep going, there are quite a few, I'm just asking if there are any other makes/models anyone can think of that I should include in this search.

It'd have to be ...94? IIRC or newer for airbags.

but yea, I'll throw that on the list for sure

Craigslist is your friend.

I'm well aware of Craigslist, I'm asking what other makes/models I should include in my search. (I do not mean to be rude, I'm just saying I already know where to look)

You're a DSM guy right? how do Non-Turbo Galants hold up normally? how hard is it to work on a Non Turbo 4G6...2?

Lumina....IDC if you hate em or not, you can't go wrong. I had my 94 for 4.5 years, put 60k miles on it, and it only died on me once(in the last month I had it)

is the trans the same in the Lumina's and Corsica's?

What year did they become electrically controlled?

I've had 2 cable/vac controlled GM Transmissions go out on me, so Maybe that is why I dislike them?

Yeah, my 94 was the 3.1MPFI, but it had the 4T60-E trans which came on all 93+ V6 GM fwd cars. So, depending on what year corsica you had, you probably had the E trans. The non electronic controlled trans stopped in 92/early 93 I believe. Trans never gave me any problems

pm fat tony. he had an old cavalier...he may still have it.

His dad is driving it now

is the metro a 3 or 4 cyl? how much?

As of... 96? Its just a re-badged Toyota Corolla, its a 4 banger.

the OLD ones were Suzuki swifts.

the Corsica was a 93, but was not electronically controlled.

My Sunfire was a 95, but was a 3 speed box with a TV cable and shit still.

both crapped out suddenly no/little warning.

You guys ever fix the Metro?

97 Taurus, unless its minty/low miles don't usually go for more than $1400 from what I've seen :dunno:

Yes, we finally found a motor. Just got the car detailed last week, thing runs nice. 84K miles, auto, 4-banger, 4-door, looking for $3600, I will post pics soon.

Taurus has 90K, runs great, looks good.

Try Freebo.com, owned by Cars.com. It's more credible than Craigslist because our people filter through all the listings and hunt down fraudulent listings. You can search for cars under $1,000, too.

Unfortunately, you can't search for all makes in one search.

Edit: plus it's new and there aren't many listings.
