Gas Guzzler Tax:

A GTO that fits what I like (Black on black, I wanted a Black, purple, or barbatos blue one) finally popped up locally, but its an Automatic

Granted this is the FIRST GTO to pop up in my area, I mainly want to test drive it to see what its like, and will probably not buy it, I do have a question:

I know the Automatics when they were new had to pay a $1000 gas guzzler tax, Does this still apply for an 04 or for used cars in general?

In case they make me a hell of a good offer I'd entertain it, but if that tax still applies there's no way I'd even consider buying an auto GTO.

The gas guzzler tax on my M3 came up like an option on the pricing sheet. So unless they try to sell you the gas guzzler tax option, I don't think it will be included in the price. =) Pretty sure only the initial buyer gets hit with that ridiculous tax.

Thats what I SUSPECT also, but with them selling SO cheap, I worry that it may not be the case.

I wouldn't MIND a auto since in-town its gonna be no worse than a manual, but I would be annoyed with the 25mpg on the freeway opposed to 29...

Gas guzzler tax is new cars only. Cars that get under 22.5 mpg combined are penalized, and the further away the car is from 22.5 mpg the higher the tax, from $1,000 up to $7,700

Gotcha. any word on freeway MPG from testing of an auto?

Don't know if I follow. The 22.5 mpg limit is combined mpg, as in combined city/highway mileage.
