play in gear???

How do you check if there is too much play in the gear? When it was originaly installed it seemed tighter then now. Any ideas?

How much "play" with a gear??? I don't think there's really play in a gear...IDK.

when I think of "play" i think of a tollerrance. Is this a clutch question?

Are you talking about the way the shifter feels?

If so, I don't think there should be any "play" once you're in gear.

Not sure how to explain it. But when I start going there is a clunk. Like a driveshaft but the shaft is good no play in that.
I have the IRS, could it be theshafts that go from the pumpkin to the hub?

Even when I shift and release the clutch, there is a knock like something is loose.

if you can't deal with clunks and shit an old mustang isn't the ride for you
the irs makes even slightly more clunk than the solid

its just the enormous tolerances in ur tranny
i believe the only way to fix it pretty much is get a viper spec t56

or just live with it
or supposedly a cf driveshaft can absorb 90% of the clunkiness so u dont hear it

We do not know how bad this issue is, but it may simply be another characteristic of your car.

I have come to accept rattles, creaks, clunks and window seals that leak with GM, Ford and Diamler Chrysler vehicles...

I guess you guys are right. i dont care about clunks, squeeks but i spent $550 on a gear install and want to make sure it was done right. and nothing went loose on me

car shudnt squeek and the window seals shudnt be bad, and those are easily repairable if they do, also all cars have those problem
the clunk is something somewhat unique to the mustang among new cars and is a design flaw plain and simple

When I put my 2000 in first there is somewhat of a "clunk." It's done that ever since I bought the car though. I think it's just the nature of the beast dude.
