Airbag light

so apparently when i took my car to the dealer ship cause it had the airbag light on and it took them allmost 2 hours to find out what the problem was... they said theres a sensor in my seatbelt that got messed up

can someone explain how a seatbelt for a driver effects the airbag?

i know the airbag light is associated with weight on the seat (it can detect if someone is sitting there)... i dont know about seatbelt...

If the seatbelt isn't buckled the airbag won't go off. If the airbag modlue or bcm can't tell if the seatbelt is buckled, the airbag won't go off.

I think Matt means "If there is weight in either seat, without the belt buckled, the light will be on"

I know I've had a 5 gallon water jug in my pass seat before and it sets off my seat-belt light.

To what dealership did you go?

BTW the airbag is only helpful if your seatbelt is buckled. If theres an open or a short or a problem with the switch in the buckle the SRS unit disables everything.
