Rear end jack point

I recently got a 99 Cobra and I am eager to swap out the exhaust. Since the pipes go right by the Differential where is the best spot to use a hydraulic jack to lift up the back end of this car?

On my 03, I put the jack on the tubular IRS frame. I don't think you're supposed to jack from the differential on a car with IRS. It could cause damage.

Can anyone confirm?

This is a good reason for sub frame connectors. I put the jack under where the rear sub is welded to the frame. There is not alot of room under there otherwise.

Buy a pair of Rino or another brand of ramps (under $20) and back your car up on the ramps.

Attached document shows jacking position for solid axle Mustang. Any jacking on the differential housing is a no no (IRS or solid)

why is that spot a no no? A mechanic who lives down the street said it's ok. I believe you I would just like to know what the reasoning is.

I put a piece of wood on my jack and jacked in front of control arm box. Then I put jackstands under the tubluar support, then repeated on other side.

Service manual claims it could damage the housing and or rear end cover. Personally I have done it myself several times, but I would not try it on a car with an IRS setup.

Most housings are aluminum now and can be tweaked very easily... hence why things have changed on some cars.
