Even with snow tires and bags, it's going to blow in the snow.
If you do make sure you have some type of system to hold the bags in place. When I had my Mustang I put bags in and learned the hard way. Bag slide and hit the side of the trunk and gave the ass end more momentum in the current slide I was in. Went 2 full spins, caught it and got it back. Kept on driving like nothing happened.

Would this be a good daily driver? I'd much rather have a nice Mustang, which will be easy to work on and cheaper to own, then a luxury car... but any opinions on the 3v?
http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/ctd/2723714109.html

I would daily drive my 3v if it wasn't a convertible, and it didn't have so few miles on it. But I'm a huge ford swinger, and own a second car so I don't have to.

That one seems alarmingly cheap, and then I saw it had Porno red interior, has hood pins (which would concern me), looks like some lower front end damage (Cracked paint and or bumper cover), all of the stereo buttons are trashed/worn off, and is a first year model.

The 05's DO have a number of more common issues (TPS Sensor, rear Diff issues, and a few recalls IIRC), that are resolved for the following years (this is in part why I purchased an 06) just as a heads up.

I purchased mine for the exact same reasons you are looking, I wanted something newer/nicer that was reasonably cheap to own and easy to work on if need be (and I'm personally very biased to the looks/style/performance/etc).

The dashboard is honestly a "Sea of plastic", but I like the way it looks, and don't sit and stroke my dashboard, so don't really care that there are few 'soft touch' plastics in the car.

As far as daily driving it, you may get annoyed with certain aspects, Namely the complete lack of easily accessible cubby space (Door pockets are worthless, and the console storage is awkward to reach into, especially while driving, and is not especially large), and the cupholders being worthless for anything except regular soda cans in a 5 speed car (Positioned DIRECTLY behind the shifter, which is VERY short, and has very little height over the console. Also, if the car you are looking at being a premium (as is mine) has Aluminum or metal steering wheel inserts that get REALLY fucking cold in the winter which can be obnoxious if you rest your hand on one of the spokes while driving. This doesn't bother me since I drive my explorer when it's crappy out, but something to keep in mind if you plan on driving it in winter.

MPG wise, if you keep your foot out of it, I was getting 21-22 in town, 27-28 on the highway. Driving more spiritedly nets me 18 in mixed driving (mostly in town).

If you pull the trigger, I'd recommend doing what I did, and buy a storage tray or bag for your passenger side seat when you don't have any passengers, or to toss on your rear seats if you do. This way you have a place to act as a catch-all, otherwise you will be constantly looking for a place to put your phone, or bag of potato chips, etc, down on.

Common things to look for on an 05 would be hood lip rust/bubbles, TPS Sensor (Car going into limp mode/CEL's), and rear diff whine.

(I have something like this, but with more compartments etc)

As far as winter driving goes, the stock tires are SUCH garbage (mine still has them), can hardly drive it in the damn rain, and I'm far from an idiot driver. As mentioned, snow tires would do it wonders, but be aware that S-197 mustangs have a taller tire, and different rim offset than the 99-04 mustangs (which makes it harder to find a cheap used set), so if you buy snow tires/rims, be sure they are the right size.

I have a set of 245/40/17 blizzaks that I can use. And shit I drove my cammed GTO through the winter on snow tires and didn't have a single problem. Honestly winter driving isn't an issue, I mean especially when you look at how many mustangs are on the rode and how many people daily them.

I'd say go for it. It should be a fun car that gets decent mileage for what it is.

If you are willing to drive RWD in the winter buy a Fbody for that price. fuck that turd.

a 3 valve is a far nicer place to be IMO than any Fbody, and you can't get a warranty on a used Fbody. The driving position of a mustang is far more friendly for DD Duty IMO as well (more upright, less gangster lean).

Also, if he is looking to finance, he will have a much harder time getting a good % loan on a 10+ year old car.

I say join the DD rwd club. I haven't had mine out in any snow but it was really wet here the other night and about 34-36* outside. I still have my stock summer tires on and you pretty much have to goose it to get sideways. I just start in 2nd gear and have minimal issues with traction. I will prolly regret this when I take my first drive in the snow though. I feel that as long as a fuck is given and you take your time things will be fine.

I drove my Vortech Supercharged 3V as my daily driver and never had a problem in the snow. With snow tires, the car was a beast. I drove it in the Blizzard last year and only ran into clearance issues on the front end due to my Roush lip.

i couldnt believe it when i saw you pull away in that shit

(at joes wake :hs:)

fucking :werd: i saw the thing in the parking lot (ps. also one of my fave mustangs out there) and was holyshitting.

That's your opinion, and you are entitled to it :), hence my previous post said "IMO"

Mine had like 4 months left of its (06+ has 5 year/50k or 60k mile powertrain), and I paid to get one FROM FORD. You cannot do that with a 10+ year old GM.

He is asking about what is it like to DD a 3v, he is not asking or shopping for a caddy.

Not sure what his price range is but he is asking about a 05, not a newer one that could possibly have a warranty.

Have fun with that warranty bro. Guess that car will be stuck running high 14's its whole life.

S-197's run high 13's stock, I will crack that next year for kicks and giggles.

As already mentioned, I don't give a shit about modifying it, I bought it to enjoy not having to work or tinker on it and having the piece of mind. I have the explorer, and the blown 5.0 to play with.

Back on topic, Let us know how it goes if you test drive it.
