dumb question (but i cant count how many times this has happened to customers of mine) is the dimmer switch off? if it is, my first guess would be door switch. are the door switches stand alone? or are they part of the door latch?
if they're stand along switches, remove them and measure the resistance

is it just the dome lights or are the footwell/courtesy lights and map/reading lights also going on?

also need to know base model or luxury from the seperate switches id guess base as the luxury is in the actual door latches

on both the switches tell the bcm and the bcm controls the courtesy lamp relay or inadvertant power relay (luxury only) both in isnt panel fuse/relay block

The door switches are the seperate plunger type. Problem with that is they are supposedly difficult to remove and break easily.

Is it possible that the switches will turn the lights on but not off?

if one of them is stuck open the BCM will keep the lights on thinking a door is open...if that makes sense.
spray them with PB blaster and pray they dont break :noes:
or, if you have access to a tech 2 or other scan tool that will read the BCM, that should tell you what door is reading open.

on the older diagrams:
the door switches come together at S208 and its the purple wire at pin L of the headlight/dimmer/(going to the dome light defeat switch which opens the circuit)
the grey wire at pin B is where it leavs the switch and goes to the RKE/int lamp control module
if you have a ground at the purple, one of your switches is toast or the wire is shorted to ground

regardless s208 makes it imposible for you to figure out which switch it is...the easy way

well id start at the switches...go around to each switch in turn and depress em and feel for "one of these things is not like the others"
look for signs of a door being shut onto a seat belt buckle/obvious damage.

if nothing obvious is found i would start at the drivers door switch (3 wires which also grounds a tan wire for the audible key in ignition dinger) and the cargo door switch as these are most often used on most of the suburbans ive worked on.

door switch removal, obviously disregard battery disconnecting as youll be wanting to see which switch (in turn) kills the lights when unplugged
