Hey I don't have the ability to do much research, but I know there are a couple of Subaru guys here. Parents are looking at a 2002 Subaru Outback wagon, 151k miles new timing belt and a couple other parts, any Commons items and problems to look out for? I know these routinely go above 200k.

Head gaskets are a very common problem on the NA 2.5's and 2.2's. Other then that they're rock solid.

Valve cover gasket is apparently leaking a bit, we are going to make some calls to see how much a repair would be.

nah. i've done heads with the engine in car on an outback and forester. they're super simple to do. the 3.0s are the ones that you have to pull the engine on....

as for valve cover gaskets. labor guide calls for 1.6 hours (shops are usually $100 an hour), and about $30 for gaskets.

Thanks guys we are going to sit on it for a bit, apparently it is really clean, it's a Florida car so it's rust free, good tires, recently detailed, a couple of dings here and there but pretty straight otherwise. Its $2300 which from what I can gather is pretty decent for a Subaru of that year, but I'm sure if we bring them $2k cash they'll go for it.

$2k is a good deal even if it needs HG's in the future.

Look up similar cars and I bet they're twice the price.

Yeah its down by my parents in Florida, so you know it's a southern car, and subarus are generally cheaper down there, I'm saying they should go for it. It would end up being a second/winter beater for me most of the time, and a car for my parents when they fly up to visit for the next few years.

ive owned a few subarus...never had any major issues
