Tuning pavement

Hey y'all. I need to find a piece of pavement to do some tuning on. This particular car is a drift car so I need plenty of space as well as some long straights. Anyone know of a place within about a half hour of Elgin that we won't get messed with? The car will be trailered there, and it would be awful nice if we could have 1/2 mile of pavement as well to tune a drag car too.

Yea, I'm more looking for a closed airstrip or something. Everyone is so damn worried about street racing that they make it impossible to find someplace not on the street to dick around.

Maybe I'm just stupid... But between a trailer, and towing, and time... wouldn't it be cheaper/easier to you know... legally rent a Dyno...?

Sure, but it's a drift car so we need to do suspension tuning. That and my schedule basically means that unless a dyno operator wants to pull a late evening schedule, that's out of the question.

Are there no 'test and tune' type days for Drift events like there are for Drag events?

rockford speedway had test n tune drifting every sunday last year - not sure if they still do it but give them a call and possibly rent the track?

Hmm... not a bad idea but I'm booked up Sundays. We may just hit a dyno and I'll do my best to make the onset of boost hit like a freight train so he can shake it loose easy enough.

i would say call rockford speedway and see when they have available...they might have a thursday night or sat morning, etc avail to rent...

We went out to a secret location, and got plenty of data, but he's got some boosting issues so it was slow at 5psi. Got the tune extrapolated to 15psi and the suspension lets the car turn sideways controllably, so except for what I expect to see as a boost leak, we did it without much trouble.
