I get a solid 33mpg's driving to and from work in my auto 01 focus. It's boring as fuck but gets the job done. I'd imagine a manual would be more fun and get better mpg's.

My neon does about the same and yes, it is the most boring car I've driven too...

I know civics are slow, but damn is that the best mph he can go!!

Sunfire

I'd steer clear of late model escorts, CRAZY small inside

x2 on escorts being too small if you are larger than 5 feet tall, and some reliability issues

and don't get a 2.2 sunfire, I test drove a 2001-ish when it was new and compared to my hyundai tiburon it was a complete turd.

Are the 4-cyl accords as good as the civics on gas? An early 2ks accord coupe wouldn't be a bad dd. Cavaliers and sunfires aren't horrible, my girl has a sunflower with the newer 2.2 in it. Good on gas but its just not for me. Build quality on the body and interior are just meh. Focus' aren't bad, I'd dd one. Think I'd rather have the honda though.

the face lifted accords (200......5?) get 30+ all day long, the older ones weren't quite a frugal. I'd aim for a 96-00 civic with a 5speed.

Ahhh ok, so a 2000 ish one probably isn't worth it? Guess I'll just lean toward a civic then. (Too bad I actually really liked that accord). I'm thinking 00-03, black with a sunroof if I get lucky enough. Would go manual but it'd be my first and I don't feel like replacing a clutch in a month.

A car with 80 torque won't melt the clutch after a month even if you slip the shit out of it everywhere you go, Don't be afraid of a 5 speed.
