As many of you guys know, I am in the midst of converting my TBSS to 2wd from AWD. Its going to be running a yank SSTB4000 converter (4000rpm stall), 1:1 drive in 3rd gear, 4.10 rear gear, 6500rpm red line, currently trapping 109mph (anticipating to pick up 2-3mph more), the truck will be about 4100# race weight, and I am running a 16" wheel, limited to a 275mm or 9.5" tread width tire. It has never been on a dyno, so I have no idea where the power band peaks.

These are the tires I am currently looking at:

M&H 275/55/16 Drag Radial (28" diameter)
http://www.jegs.com/i/M-H/676/ROD-08R/10002/-1?parentProductId=754450

Hoosier 255/50/16 Drag Radial (26.4" diameter)
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...Id=760685&itemId=379292&langId=-1&showValue=1

Mickey Thompson 255/50/16 ET Street Drag Radial (26" diameter)
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...tId=753925&itemId=96410&langId=-1&showValue=1

There is going to be converter slip up top, since I will not be locking the converter at WOT. I need to allow some rpms for that, and the fact that I dont want to bounce it off the limiter going through the traps either.

28" tire:
6500 RPM 132.06 MPH
6000 RPM 121.90 MPH
5500 RPM 111.74 MPH
5000 RPM 101.59 MPH

26.4" tire:
6500 RPM 124.51 MPH
6000 RPM 114.94 MPH
5500 RPM 105.36 MPH

26" tire:
6500 RPM 122.63 MPH
6000 RPM 113.20 MPH
5500 RPM 103.76 MPH

Id like the extra width of the 275 tire, and the fact that i can reasonably cruise on the street with a 28" as well, but which will be the BEST for performance? Making a 255 tire work wont be a problem, ive got the suspension to handle it.

Go with the 28". more rolling radius to give you that leeway with not locking up the converter.

i feel a 26" make make you trap right on the limiter. i had that issue with the stang. ran a 26 and was having to shift into 5th because it was too short. so i went up to a 28x10.5 and it helped me trap at like 59XX across the beams at the end.

28 will give you a little better contact patch as well. 275 for sure on that thing. need some wider tire for the weight of that truck.
