Up for auction is this very unique Pontiac Grand Prix GTX Coupe. The car is robust, attractive, with proven and tested ability to be track-worthy, as well as a solid and formidable sports car on the road.. 600hp Procharged V8 / 5 speed manual trans, full body kit, custom paint, 3 inch Flowmaster exhaust, DVD video, and more.

This engine platform was a prototype for a possible Lamborghini replica project or some other mid engine concept. A 4.6L 32 Valve all aluminum V8 engineered by Cadillac was chosen for its refinement, light weight, power, fuel efficient, high rev limit, and overall technological advancement.

There are few things stock about this particular Northstar motor however. Many of the internals were custom made specifically to handle up to 20lbs of boost, 1200 hp, and support an 8000 rev limit. The pistons are forged dished aluminum, made by Ross, with a 9.0 to 1 compression ratio. We needed to lower the compression from the stock 10.3 to 1, to handle the boost and avoid pre-ignition. The rods are Eagle H-beam which, like the pistons, are very light and incredibly strong. Due to the lighter pistons and rods, the crankshaft lost quite a bit of weight as well during the balancing/ blueprinting process.

With much lighter internals, the rotating assembly on this car revs super fast, smooth, and sounds awesome. This is where refinement meets EXTREME horsepower, and they get along harmoniously. To supply this extraordinary power plant its petro, as opposed to the stock 23lb injectors, we used Holley 52 lb injectors. Fuel pressure is supplied to them with an in tank pump similar in spec to the one used in a 4.6 supercharged Cobra Mustang.

The seemingly unlimited power of this machine is right there on stand-by when you want it. A Procharger, the ‘granddaddy’ of superchargers was used and, as opposed to a turbo, the lag is almost nonexistent. At max boost, the assembly is currently pushing 12 PSI of air pressure. There is a larger pulley installed currently (larger pulley being more conservative) with the Haltech E6X stand-alone engine management system tuned appropriately. Included is the software for the Haltech so you can make any tuning changes if ever desired in the future. The software is very easy to use and will allow you to fully tune any parameter on the fly via a laptop.

The car has all the handling, braking, and amenities of a regular GTP, with a few extras, and exceptions. The Grand Prix never came with a manual transmission for instance, so the automatic transmission that was converted to a 5 speed, alone, makes it one of a kind car. We used an M-27 Getrag trans, which is one of the most robust units that could be found on the market, and is still holding up great.

A special custom made 26” long driveshaft was utilized for the Procharger since the only place there was room to mount it was to the transmission. The bearing carrier for the shaft was fitted with ceramic bearings to handle the heat and load. In order to cool the detonation charge, we needed a huge intercooler. We went with a same-side 3” in and out unit made by Godspeed. We needed to mount not one but two blow-off valves to purge the unused air volume. The brakes were upgraded with drilled and vented rotors, ceramic pads, and the car stops on a dime. The wheels are nice aluminum 18’s with Dunlop 245/40/ZR18’s. In-dash pop-up Panasonic DVD player, and 8 disk changer included.

The full body kit and custom two-toned paint really stand out, although many people don't notice the Pontiac symbol over the top of the vehicle in green. There have been some minor blemishes from routine road use that got touch up attention, but overall a very nice, aggressive looking car.

Full custom instrumentation with stainless bezel enhances the interior aspect of the car, making it a custom revision with all the gauges working properly. A factory cluster was used with 5 aftermarket gauges. Signal converters from Dakota Digital worked great to convert signals for the tach and speedometer.

The car is essentially a 97 Grand Prix GT for title purposes. Many of the non-engine-related components such as suspension, and steering are to factory GTP specifications. The vehicle is the perfect combination of extreme performance with comfort. The car can be driven anywhere and is a joy to drive, as well as being an eye-catcher. It also seats five and there is even room for luggage.

The 18 inch rims w/ 245/40/ZR 18's stiffen the ride slightly from standard equipment. On a track this powerful machine would be a force to recon with for any challenger. Comparatively, world class sports cars such as the 2008 Corvette Z06, Lamborghini Gallardo, and Dodge Viper all have roughly 500 horsepower. Whereas, this car for auction was dynoed at 586 smooth refined horsepower and 550 lb/lbs of torque! There is enough torque that you virtually never have to take it out of high gear in normal driving.

The extraordinary engine replacement did cause some necessary changes, in that some standard equipment needed to be sacrificed. The factory anti-lock brake and traction control system was not designed to handle 586 horsepower, therefore that system has been deactivated. Also, the factory cruise control was eliminated due to its incompatibility with the current engine controls. Aftermarket systems are available on the market if a buyer wanted to make additional changes.

In order to make a spot for the supercharger pulley, and due to the confines of the Grand Prix engine compartment, the air conditioning system was sacrificed as well. The supercharger pulley is now located where the alternator used to be on the Northstar, the alternator being moved where the A/C compressor would have been..

There have been countless hours, resources, and money invested into the success of this prototype. The car will probably sell to the highest bidder who will undoubtedly never come close money wise to the actual investment. But my loss can be your gain for this one-of-a kind American muscle machine. Any questions, feel free to e-mail me, but PLEASE, no tire kickers or window shoppers. SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY.

Thanks for viewing, good luck, and I hope you have the winning bid.

I read about this on ClubGP. I don't understand how someone with excellent tastes in performance and engineering ingenuity to create a powerhouse like that, and the guy makes it look like that :puke:

I hate those body kits.
