TCG: What do you know about Alero's?

i have a friend looking at a 2000ish olds alero with roughly 100k on the clock. what are the red flags i should look for outside of the obvious mechanical defects?

Intakes gaskets and they can't keep front suspensions in them.

Well she ended up going with a 2003 olds alero with a 2.2L ecotec. It has 99k on the clock. Thanks for the fast reply.

the 03 ecotecs and under ecotecs are plagued with timing chain failure. the chain oiler clogs up and dries the chain up causing it to break (destroying the valves in the process). there is an updated oiler that i would highly recommend doing. they usually go after 100k miles, depending on how the car was maintained.

ive replced many an early ecotec engine, head, and timing chain..... worse comes to worse a whole motor costs like $500

the v6 is known for the lower and upper intake manifolds, wheel bearings, brakes, water leaks, and the ecotec is know for timing chain problems like the guys said above

mine is a 03 ecotec, with 46,000 miles, the only problem i have are the 02 sensors, thats it, i like the car even modified it runs great
