What's the Most Fun Car (or Truck) You Can Buy for $5000?

Following the Jalopnik QOTD from today and bringing it here http://jalopnik.com/5694778/whats-the-most-fun-car-or-truck-you-can-buy-for-5000. What is the most fun car you can pickup for under $5k. Reading through others comments, the Miata and 944 are far and away the most often brought up, just thought I'd get TCG's opinions.

all depends on what kind of fun you are looking to have.
1st car that comes to my mind is a foxbody..but then again im mostly into straight-line racing.

well it would also depend... 5gs and call it a day... or 5gs total.

5 gs would go a long fun way in a wbody not to nutswing (1500$ pricks + 3500$ to play with would be pretty quick)... but an older pickup with $ into it would be fun as shit

as for cars up to 5k that would be fun.

The $5k limit is whatever you want it to be. It could be all in including mods, or it could be just to get into the car.

Find a 97+ V8 Dakota std cab with the 5 speed. Probably the most fun you can have on the street. Not exactly fast, but I could get 3 gears of rubber on my old one. You can pretty much drive it sideways up the the street smoking the tires in a controlled fashon...and snow driving is a blast with good tires.

I lowered mine 3/5 drop, and it could outhandle my GTP anyday of the week...it was actually one of the better handling vehicles I've owned.

Just make sure to look for models with the posi, I had 3.55 gears on mine too.

Personally, I would buy a mid-90's 2.3 Ranger with the 5-speed and a blown motor, and then buy Poopshinanigons SVO or a Turbo Coupe, and swap that drivetrain into the Ranger. Perfect sleeper status, and an easy motor swap as the N/A 2.3 from the Ranger has basically all the same mounting points as the 2.3 turbo motor. <$1000 for the Ranger, and a few grand for the SVO/TC, and a grand or so left over for the swap, and you are gold. Plus if you get the SVO, you already have a Trac-Loc, disc brake, 3.45 rear that should swap in nicely.
