I was gonna go the opposite way greasy... shit. give it another month or three and I think there will be very close to stock 2011 5.0s in the 9s... shit they are mid 10s right now with jack shit done to em right?

also... better looks imo, better interior as well.

id go that 5.0

Yeah you might get there, but the bottom end is suspect as to what it can handle. That is where my issue lies in this comparison.

its a mustang either way! :drums:

You're right, it's a win/win situation.

Also, which shelby?

Look at what the motors have internally. The Shelby can handle a ton of power and have a blower from the factory. The 2011 is questionable due to their rods and pistons. Plus suspension and brake upgrades.

Plus the Shelby will hold value better due to their limited production numbers.

AMEN to a brotha makin' some sense up in dis mug! :)

Normally you are like Yoda….very wise you are….but I have to disagree.

The 07-09’s are going to take a hit on price due to the 2011’s (and 2010’s to an extent). Ford really hit a homerun with the interior in 2010 and improved the Shelby’s dynamics in 2011. If you read the reviews, the difference is night and day.

My preference would be

1. 2010+ GT500
2. 2011 5.0L
3. 2007-2009 GT500

Why did I put the 2011 5.0L ahead of the 07-09 GT500? The interior is vastly improved, has more standard content (and better options), it’s much lighter and dynamically more balanced. The 5.0L also responds well to mods, but it’s not going to beat the GT500’s blown motor in mod-a-bility.

You and interiors.....Go buy a Mercedes asshole. lol

Yes, the interior is nicer. I am happy to see Ford starting to do better in that area. But still not a huge reason most Mustang buyers buy a mustang. Otherwise they would have never sold Mustangs. lol

Right away the 2011 will effect the prices on the other cars. But just short term. The long term the Shelby will hold it's value much better than any GT.

Better interior and platform :dunno:

The engine is not a platform. Engines can be beefed up; actual chassis/platform isn't as easy/cheap. Sure you can bolt some stuff on but it'll still be a heavy pig.

Ford updated the S197 platform in 2010 and 2011. Most notably in 2011 and that's where you see the biggest improvement in the Shelby GT500.

Here is how I look at it. If you want an all around performer, the 5.0L is the way to go. It will outhandle and outbrake the 07-09 GT500. Remember, you can now get the 14" Brembo's that the GT500 has on the 2011 5.0.

If you want a straight line car for drag racing, the GT500 is the winner.

We are not comparing Fox body interiors to the '94 - '04 era here. The quality gap is not the same.

When I said platform, I qualified my statement by putting "power" before it. The reason the GT 500 is heavier is because the block is iron where the GT is aluminum.

GT 500 = 4V GT = 3V

I would argue the suspension mods would be way cheaper than the motor side of things.

I've got a 2005 Mustang and the interior is basically the same as a 2007-2009 GT500 minus the steering wheel and additional lateral bolstering of the front seats. The 2010+ is a pretty huge improvement over my interior. I was really impressed at the improvements.

Yes, you mod the GT500's suspension but you still have 300+ lbs more weight than the GT.

So what is worth more to you then:

The power capabilities/increased durability of the iron block coupled with more weight?

Or the power capabilities/weight savings with weak internals being stressed to the max?

I choose the first one.
