will 200,000 miles become the new 100,000 miles?

lots of people- non car people, and car people alike, have seen 100,000 miles in the past as a major milestone for a vehicle in which it is not worth much more after that and is not as prized.

at the same time tho, cars are going much further on stock engines, trans', and so on and so forth...

so with that... will the 100,000 mile stigma be a thing of the past sometime soon, and 200,000 miles replace it?



me personally... im looking at new used cars for me... and higher mileage stuff is promising because of the cost savings it presents, and really, now a days with modern technologies, whats to say most vehicles when maintained properly won't go 2-300k miles?

so with that being said, me personally. 100k aint shit. shit, 138k meant for my gtp a turbo kit at 12 psi, and getting beat harder than ever before.

I think so. They have 100k+ mile forums.....just to talk about high mileage cars. My wifes focus has 120k on it and it's been perfectly fine besides normal wear and tear. My old civic had 160k on it when i sold it and it's still going strong with over 200k on it with the new owner.

The Cav is a wee bit over 170 thou but no a/c haha
my mom bought a used 89 civic wagon and it went over 230,000 then we sold it.
my dad still tells me how cars used to hit 70 thousand would be rusting and thrown into the junkyard. there were no used cars haha.

cars have advanced greatly in even the past 20 years and more to come.

1996 cavalier 2.2l, for a good couple "decades", oil changes would happen every 30,000 miles approximately. I won't mention who the previous owner was. I remember changing the timing chain tensioner at 160k, bought it with 192k, and it was the same oil filter...

Still going strong, I beat the living shit out of it, and the only thing it needs is new bushings and a wheel bearing. The car runs (with a slight tick, compared to a LOT of the other cavi's out there) just fine with 213,600 on the clock...

Ex Stepfather bought the '86 Astro that My grandfather bought used in late '86... It saw over 400K before it died...

My mom's '93 Astro had over 250K on it when she traded for the G6, from what I know some Mexicans around Crystal Lake area have it and it's still running...

My '96 Intrepid has over 160K and still runs very strong (3.5L)

My 40th has just over 115K... runs strong

I don't know if 200k will become the new 100k because things are stil going to break at a certain point. these things are engineered to have a certain life expectancy. Some go longer than others. But lets face it. I don't know how anxious manufacturers are to engineer their cars much for insane amounts of time because then people wouldn't buy new cars and they kill their own sales. So I think there is a balance just not 200k being the new norm. Who knows. I know if I could afford it I would get rid of cars as soon as warranty was up.
