Any way to locate a car?

I'm trying to find my old truck and curious if there is a way to locate it. Obviously a carfax would tell me where it was servicd but any other way?

Carfax can tell you where it's registered too I believe or at least where it was last registered.

What if you don't know the VIN?

I'd like to find a car my dad used to have many years ago. Would the DMV be able to track down cars that people have owned?

That might be tough without a vin. Maybe the insurance company would have a record of the vin? I don't see the DMV handing out info very easily.
