Gasoline brands

I'm curious to know if anyone on this forum has a true reason why they prefer one gas company like shell or BP over another. Does anyone have a preference on here, and if so is there a reason other than price? I guess what I'm asking is do people here think that the "expensive" brands are actually better for your car?

I use citgo cause it's right next to work, cheap and they get like 2 deliveries a day so I assume it's usually pretty fresh.

I use mobil when I need gas by my house cause it's cheap and I seem to get better mpgs out of it....except the winter blend.

Pretty much every brand gets it's gas from the same refineries.....they just add their own shit too it. I feel like the more additives the less petrol I'm actually getting

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline is the premier standard for gasoline performance. Six of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, Toyota, Volkswagen and Audi recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.




Over the past several years, the minimum level of detergent additive required by the EPA has declined by an estimated 50%



TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline Retailers

Gasoline retailers must meet the high TOP TIER standards with all grades of gasoline to be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.

In addition, all gasoline outlets carrying the brand of the approved retailer must meet the TOP TIER standards.

Additional gasoline retailers are added to the TOP TIER list as they meet the standards. The retailers known to be on the TOP TIER list are shown below.

Why TOP TIER

The intention of the TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline standards is to create a winning situation for gasoline retailers, auto manufacturers and drivers. Currently, many gasoline retailers provide fuels with lower-quality additive packages that can build up deposits on fuel injectors and on intake valves. Others can build up deposits in combustion chambers and may lead to intake valve sticking. These lower levels of additives can have negative impacts on engine performance and vehicle responsiveness.

The truck and van usually get Mobil because of convience/cost.

I'm no newb to old engines. My poor Buick hates unleaded 93. I had to remove a bunch of timing just to get her to run without pinging. 10.25:1 compression iron head/block ftl nowadays

the Catalina has no problem on swill 93.

I used to use Citgo since it was cheap and close my driving route to work. I switched one day to Mobil and noticed that the Citgo fuel did not last as long as the Mobil would. I got out about a good 20-30 more miles out of that tank. The detergents do make a difference.
