I actually got hit by someone that did the same thing on 290 about 20 years ago. T/A trying to race a 911...went sideways and hit me in the back (I was driving a cargo van doing 75). Spun me in circles through heavy traffic...somehow I didn't flip over, and didn't hit any other cars. Ended up backwards scraping against the inside of a bridge overpass. Cop pulled over to cite me for facing the wrong way...driver of the T/A took off.

The company I worked for fired me over it, and witheld my last 2 weeks of pay...had to get the IL dept of labor involved to get my last paycheck...took 6 months!

Yeah, anyway...sorry for the rant.

Maybe they hit some water while they were accelerating or possibly downshifted into the wrong gear causing the rear wheels to lock up. Whatever it was it caught them by surprise.
