Default Damit, My car seems to be misfiring

Saturday night my car started running like shit. I was thinking it had something to do with the shit gas I put in. I normally dont put anything but Shell or BP in my tank. I was in a bit of a emergency and had to go to some gas station where they only sold 92 octane.

Anyways while I was driving my car suddenly started misfiring and my engine light was blinking. I wound up changing the plugs last night. Its a hell of a lot better but not 100%. It drives fine its when I giise the gas it tends to spudder a little bit. Anyone have any Ideas?

Coil Packs??
Wires??

Might be a number of things, how is your fuel pressure? how long since you changed your fuel filter? ever cleaned the injectors themselves? and with the cheap gas ALWAYS add a bottle of heet to get rid of alot of the water.

I have the 39lb Cobra injectors on the car. I'm going to try and dump a can of seafoam in the car and fill up with good gas. I'm hoping it just nneds a basic tune up. I'll try changing the fuel filter over the weekend. Its been a little while since I've changed the filter

Id do the fuel filter as well as the seafoam. are you adding 1/3 to the oil, 1/3 to the tank and 1/3 to the brake booster vacuum line or are you just dumping it in the tank?

Im doing my seafoam this afternoon when the truck gets back from the shop, gas tank got ripped open.

I dont know if I trust dumping that stuff into my oil. I had a Corssica that I did that to and it ate right through my oil gasket. There went my winter beater. I'll just dump it in the tank

I put it into my 92's crankcase, it hasnt eaten anything and this is the 6th dose in 2 years. as long as the seals are good to begin with it will not harm them, however, if you have a pinhole or small tear then the seal on the gasket itself is compromised and then it will eat away at the unprotected materials causing leaks.

awww shit. I think a GTP will run fine on 87, just as long as you stay out of boost. Id say change the wires, the blinking SES light means I heavy misfire I think. Stay away from seaform I hear that can fuck up the coating on the rotors in the blower. Vogel has said Chevron Techron is the best fuel injector cleaner.

A little while ago I had the same problem. I was misfiring like a motherfucker when I needed to replace the wires. The engine light was blinking but I had to limp her home. It's just a pin in the ass now a days. I'm so limited on time these days. I think my friend Matt and I will try some shit out Saturday morning.

I dont have a cat on my car, so thats a good thing

I'm thinking wires. The GM wires are "good enough" to supply the plugs the needed voltage, but they don't do plug changes, vibrations, or extreme temps well.

I'd get a good set of aftermarkets like the MSD's and call it done. PRJ's if you can get a deal. I used a universal set of Accell 300+ race wires when I first got my car, and have never had a problem with wires. My last set of 300+'s lasted for 10 years on 3 different cars.

You can always check the resistance on the primary and secondary coils of your coilpacks but i think one of them crapping out is less likely than some of your other possible culprits. It's free to check them though and good to rule out, one of my secondaries on the stock coils was about .4ohms off of the other 2 which were withing .02 of each other. Have you looked at the connections to your battery and where the battery is grounded to the chassis?

missfire is a general p0300
a p0300 will not make the MIL flash, theres another code other then P0300 inorder to make the MIL flash. Typically something causing Catalyst damage. Multiple missfires ie a dead hole will cause it to flash sometimes, but thats causing catalyst damage.... thus, the flashing light.

I was gonna say, misfires DO cause catalyst damage.

Ive had flashing SES happen and no cat. Code removed as well.

Ive always followed the rule of flashing SES = multiple misfires.

Sounds like wires to me. My MSD's were arcing terribly (started misfiring under WOT), and getting worse as the days went by (ended up only needing to push the gas past 1/3 to get the car to misfire). so I replaced them with OEM wires and have been happy ever since. Took me all of 10 minutes to replace them. Gotta love headers.
