Salvage yards can still pick through the car and take parts before crushing it. But the engine has typically been the main source of money for those yards. The dealership is required to junk the engine before sending it to the scrapyard. Salvage yards can still source the transmission and any other parts before crushing the rest.

i guess in reality these cars could still make their way on the road if the engines werent destroyed. i think deeming the VIN unfit for selling should be more than enough though. these could be job site vehicles, farm vehicles, junkyard parts running vehicles. wasteful society we live in...its sad.
