Default 1988 Mercedes 190E 2.3L - Maintenance

Friend just bought a 1988 Mercedes 190E 2.3L (auto) with 96,xxx original miles. Car looks great, but is dying out when it comes to a stop. Runs well when driving, but sporadically dies out when coming to a stop.

Suggestions on what the problem may be?

My guess is alternator and connections to and from it.

If you are braking, check for a vacuum leak, especially around the brake booster, or maybe the brake booster diaphragm itself is leaking. Worth a shot if its not any electrical connections.

is it fuel injected or carb?
i've run into a few older carbed mercs that have had this same issue. the choke cable sticks at the carb body, causing it to die at idle.
