Well, we moved our POS track car from our friend Steve's garage back to ours and got it set up yesterday..

Today the engine removal process begins:

so for the hell of it we just took off the VC.. and from this viewpoint, you'd never know anything was wrong.. so yeah, the bottom end is TOAST...

yeah.. just driver error of missing a shift ..and replacement is another 99 g20 sr20 motor (was auto so no overrev issues before we get it anyway)

well, so far they found a little bit of brass and burnt metal pieces removing the upper and lower oil pan but no telltale sign YET of what exactly is broke in there....

wierd stuff..

#1 rod bearing looks fine.. no metal pieces there... ..just normal wear...

..starting to suspect the oil pump failed..... car ran about 20 seconds with zero oil pressure before being shut off so I dunno...

We still suspect the oil pump and the tabs broken off from the overrev resulting in no oil pressure but we'll see....

In case I didn't mention it before, the oil was NOT silver (no evidence of spun bearings) when draining it...

Anyway.....

#4 is bad.. spun bearing from over-rev.. so yeah.. the block is okay but not the crank.. stretched... done...

lol.. I know he just installed suspension and did some tuning on an S4 IIRC but he doesn't own one himself (he has a white miata and a 1.8 jetta)

well, had some work to do on the weld repair.. still working on it now but it'll be a nice repair and work nicely in the end...

It's amazing what weld repairs can do for broken mounts off engine blocks these days (and it helps to have a cousin at a machine shop who can weld aluminum):
