As long as it passes emissions and meets safety standards (has been crash tested to US standards) it should be easy to register it. If you want to do it illegally you might just drive across. All they do is check your passport most of the time.

Depending on your time frame you should get one, it's always nice just in case. And a passport is like the Ultimate ID when you go anywhere.
