I am going to be painting the chrome on my car black.

My question is I am pretty sure that the chrome shit is all plastic so do I sand it first? or just paint over it?

The pieces I am talking about are the front and rear "H" badges and the chrome strip at the front of the hood

I actually think it might come out really good if you vinyl dye it. Like how people vinyl dye computer cases, video game controllers, etc etc.
Much better result than spray painting an enamel coat over it because the dye digs itself into the plastic and leaves the texture exactly the same. You just need to scuff up with a 2000 grit and let the dye do the work. I picked up a can of Dupli-Color Vinyl and Fabric matte black at Pep Boys the other day.

Just do a search for "vinyl dye case modding" or something because there are a lot of FAQ's out there.

Here's a generic video of the differences.
