The reason is the plastic panels on Saturns is for looks not strength. The space-frame design makes them a little stronger than a typical uni-body frame allowing them an unfair advantage. You can take all the plastic panels off a Saturn and not affect it's structural integrity. Not sure if the plastic panels are an issue since they want all plastic grills removed as well.
