8" wide rim.... stock tire is 245/405/18

fix title.. 245/45/18

Assuming i have all the space in the world, i can run a 275/40/18 on a stock 8" wide rim correct?

All the guys on the g8 boards dont seem to think so. But mustangs do it both with 17" and 18"... having 8" wide rims.


I figure if a 6.5" wide grand prix rim can mount a 255 (gtp tool), then a 8" can and WILL sit nicely with a 275/40/18.

stock mustangs come with 245. and that's an 8" wide rim...

I had 235's on the sebring's 8" wide rims and that was a perfect fit...

yes i know... i ran 2 different sets of mustang rims on my GTP... 1 had 275s all aroun.. 1 had 245s all around.


I guess im just making sure a 8" wide rim with 245/45/18 will allow a 275/40/18 no problem

You can put a 275 on no problem.

I am sure it will fit on the rim but the sidewall may have a odd bubble look to it. My 255s on the front of the GXP have a almost flat sidewall. The 245's I had on the GTX had a perfectly flat sidewall and that was both in a 8 inch wide rim.

you can , but make sure you get the whole contact area, otherwise its just a dick swinging contest with tire numbers

yes a 275 is the max on a 8" wide rim. there was no bubble to them. the fit perfectly fine on my car. almost full contact patch. 10" with a 275 would give you full contact patch. but track wise with the pressure lowered youll get a full contact patch with 8inch.

i just ended up getting stock sized 245/40/18 GSD3's...

reason being

1. I can rotate them from the back no problem.

2. Even stock tires people have hit high 1.8x 60ft's because of the very tall gearing.


no problem for now.
