car help.... i cant take it anymore

with this weather lately, could oil in a line for a oil pressure gauge mounted outtside freeze? my car was dead, charged it and it idled fine. went to drive around and car was acting wierd then when i clutched in it died and noticed my oil pressure gauge was reading zero. got it jumped but has an odd noise, doesnt sound like rod knock tho because i know what thats like. so could the oil be frozen, cars been sitting outside for 3 days and hasnt ran. but when i fired it up to warm it up after charging it sounded fine to me. also i hear a slight clicking noise by the injectors, is that the sound of a bad one? car keeps dying when i clutch in to come to a stop. then i need to jump it to get it started again...

fuck my life. its one thing after another with this car. finally get the surge to go away, cold freezes up my shit and when i finally get it started and wants to pull more shit.

power wise, i know i need a new battery , which ill be getting tomarrow. every time it gets down to 0 it freezes and has to be thawed and charged and keeps dying out. so ill be getting that tomarrow but theres more issues to address.

i dont think oil can freeze in these temps; just get very thick. you have a mechanical oil pressure gauge in your car??

yes its mechanical, but its mounted outside below the cowl hood.

if this motor ends up being trashed,which it didnt sound like it, ill be parting the whole car out. i cant take it anymore.

5w30 in it.

manual recommends 5w20. so its not really that much of a difference. i just wanna know if my oils frozen in there or if my oil pump is trashed. once my bro jumped it and i ran it home it barely made it back. but no sounds of anything like rodknock indicated that my oil pressure is gone... it was idling fine but rough. and sounds like an injector clicking to which i could understand causing the car to die and run shitty along with the battery. but im just afraid of running it anymore if my oil pressure is truely gone.

injectors will usually make a ticking noise. i assume this tick is loud?

yes its quiet loud, never heard it before like this. its right by the injector/intake area.

doesnt sound like rod knock, i know what that sounds like, from my old car, and its deff coming from up top.

only thing i could thing of with the oil shit is some condesation in the lines could have frozen preventing the gauge from reading... i just dont wanna start it again and blow every bearing.

I dont know if this is acceptable practice, but try pulling the connector off the injector you suspect is bad, if there is no change in idle that might be your problem. Also is there a possibility of bad gas? A compression check couldn't hurt either.

doubt its bad gas. ran fine all last week then sat over the weekend since i had no work. im assuming right now oil pressure is okay, because if it was shot, i tihnk id know by now if i lost it all seeing as i drove it down the street and back and sounded fine while driving, aside from bucking and killing when id clutch in.

its not frozen. the Gel state of oil, not frozen, just turns into a jelly like substance, is like -30*F Its not frozen unless water got in there...

is there an oil pressure sensor instead of going off something mechanical ?

maybe you could hook a snap on scanner if you know someone with one up to the diagnostic port and see if you can check it VIA that..that is, if you have the oil pressure sensor or a sending unit (if its electronic.)

yes there is a stock oil pressure sensor and gauge. didnt check it when i got it running due to i knew i had about 3 mins to get it home before it would die. im believing my oil pressure should be okay, cause if it wasnt i tihnk id already have known by the sound of my motor if the oil pressure was gone.

Electrical issues will make some weird gremlins.... the loud injectors may just be because how long they have to be open in this cold

im not sure if the whole car has 0 oil pressure tho. i think my motor would have been done by the time i got back to my house if i had truely 0 oil pressure.

electrical issues can be the devil, id replace as u were saying, when my alternator was going out, anytime i braked all my gauges dropped, it got so bad that at times my car would die altogether, not fun on the interstate.

10w30 should still pour down to about 50 below F. Don't drive the car until you are certain you are getting oil pressure.
