transformers 2009 camaro

the concept is real and the exterior look is real but the actual car is fake

Here is the information we have been waiting for! If you haven't already seen it, pickup the November 2006 issue of HOT ROD magazine. There is a great story (with pictures) of Bumblebee in the making at Saleen in Troy, Michigan.

According to the story, there were two versions of Bumblebee built for filming. The first one was completed in 30 days and both done in less than 45 days. Fabrication was done at Saleen's 280,000 square foot facility in Troy, Michigan. Steve Minn, vehicle coordinator for the film, recommended Saleen because they had built the Cobras used in xXx.

GM looked to their inventory and found the current GTO was the closest to the concept Camaro in size. With data and some sections and wheelbase drawings from GM, Saleen began their fabrication. The two Pontiac GTOs came from GM's R&D fleet and Joe Miesak (Saleen) went to work.

The fiberglass bodies were cast using the same molds GM used to build the two concept cars.

The interior looks much like the concept Camaro because the dashboard shell covers the original GTO instrumentation and the seats and interior handles came directly from the GTO as well.

GM had a say in the paint work. They altered the original stripes planned by Saleen to more closely resemble the Rally stripes from the 1969 Camaro.

Im not denying they used the GTO to make the Camaro. Just saying there were 2 of them and Bay stated they were $500K each.

Hell, here is some more info.

Although the fifth-generation Camaro is not yet being produced, nor has a production version even been shown publicly, the new muscle car is already appearing in different mediums.

Bumblebee depicted as a 1977 and 5th-gen Camaro.
In the 2007 live-action Transformers movie, the character Bumblebee is portrayed as a yellow 1977 Chevrolet Camaro that, midway through the film, becomes a fifth-generation Camaro.[22][23] The movie prop cars were built by Saleen using molds of the actual concept car provided by General Motors. The movie prop cars are heavily modified Pontiac GTOs with the Camaro Concept's exterior and interior.[24] Saleen did not have enough time to create wheels which accurately reflected the Camaro Concept so they used standard steel wheels with wheel covers resembling the concept car's wheels. These wheel covers also include faux brake rotors, but noticeably, the brake calipers are absent.

The concept car has also appeared in Speed Channel's reality show Forza Motorsport Showdown, as well as a music video for the song "Top Back" by rapper T.I., and is a playable bonus car in the video game Need for Speed: Carbon.

I remember seeing like three or four different GTOs destroyed in the background during that movie.

yeah i didnt appreciate that very much

They could have at least destroyed a Dodge or two. Well, that's what you get with shameless product placement in a movie, even the crashed cars were GM products. Guess that's not a bad thing, but they could have gotten rid of a Caddy Cimarron or two instead of a Goat.
