It's not often you see a V-12 race engine paired with diesel fuel. But in 2007, Peugeot decided to do just that with its 24 Hours of Le Mans racer.

The 908 HDi FAP featured a mid-mounted twin-turbo 5.5-liter direct-injection diesel V12 that made 700 horsepower and an astounding 885 lb.-ft. of torque. In 2010, the last year it was raced, the car won the Le Mans Series Championship overall. It makes a unique sound you won't hear anywhere else.

For a video thats about sound....I was left wanting more sound.

Those diesel LMP cars were so eerie. Saw them race a couple of times, and they are honestly whisper quiet...If you had your eyes closed, and ear plugs in, you may not even know they went by

The Hawk at Road America has some cool class stuff...They have a modern Indycar/F1/Daytona/Le Mans class...

There's a guy that brings an old V10 Benetton F1 car, and there was some guys running one of the original Audi gas R8's. Both cars on the track at the same time, mixing it up with Indy Cars, 911's, Viper's, and a whole bunch of other stuff is cool as hell

Gasoline and diesel direct injection were developed together...the first car with direct injection, of any kind, was gasoline, but that's neither here nor there

That's flying! My friend regularly races there in his P2 car (SCCA) and he's roughly 8 seconds slower than that Can Am car. Granted the Can Am car has 4x the horsepower, but that's impressive.
