Driven by AMG GT3 race driver Maro Engel, the GT R Pro was able to lap the Green Hell around six seconds faster than the "normal" GT R, which set a 7:10.92 lap at the hands of Sport Auto journalist Christian Gebhardt in 2016. That's thanks to dive planes, bigger front vents, a larger splitter, a carbon fiber front sway bar, a Gurney flap-equipped carbon fiber wing, and a manually adjustable coilover suspension that, according to AMG boss Tobias Moers, is basically the same setup found on the company's GT4 racing car.
This lap makes the AMG GT R Pro the eighth-fastest production car to ever lap the 'Ring, beating out cars such as the Nissan GT-R Nismo and Porsche 911 GT3. It's worth noting this time is just a few seconds off the Viper ACR's crowd-funded lap time.
If the GT R Pro can go this quickly using the GT R's unmodified 577-horsepower twin-turbo V8, we can't wait to see how much faster the upcoming Black Series version goes.
