Take this with a grain of salt but I remember my talk with GIAC (my tuner), they said the Audis are more FWD biased in their AWD than VW. We were discussing the S3 vs the R and I believe that came up. Not sure if thats really the case here...but it would make sense.

I remember Vogz telling me something similar that the A3's don't have true quattro and use a Haldex based front wheel drive setup.

Or like a lot of FWD based AWD cars it could have some sort of torque management built in to protect the rear end from getting too much power. So the more power you give it, the more the ratio shifts to favor the front.
