Obviously Miss Esa and I are plenty busy with the Ranger project and our house projects, but once the ranger is buttoned up and on daily duty so I can keep some miles off the mustang we want to start looking for something for her to work on as a project that is still exceptionally unique.

As many of you already know, we love more 'obscure' cars and projects. I love swap projects and can handle the wiring around them, and I love obscure 80's and 90's metal. She has a fondness for hatch backs, roadsters, and 'hot' sedans.

Projects that we've kicked around include things like the Omni GLHS:

Gremlins (Her father has had a Javelin forever so AMC is popular in her family):

The last generation of Mercury Capri:

And most recently, R32 Skylins GTS-T's:

What are some of your favorite UNIQUE cars that work well as projects?

My list is too long to go through but I will refine it for some of the examples your posting as examples.

Nissan 240, 280 or 300z's
Dodge stealth or the mitsu 3000gt
Dodge Shelby (Omni)
Ford escort cosworth - not sure easy it would be to source that car or parts
Crown Vic or cutlas/impala
Any wagon would be cool as well.

Anything 70's and older is going to be more costly for the car and anything worth a damn will require metal work and the mechanicals for it to be reliable. Not sure you would want to drive something like that to keep mikes off the mustang.

Why not look at older 80's trucks/4x4's (jeeps/bronco's or pickups)?

Anything. ...aside from rangers

Did you make my engine mount bracket yet? Send me an email to give you the blue prints directly.

I'll be driving my swapped ranger on daily duty to keep mileage off the mustang, we are thinking about Project cars for Theresa to motor around in to shows and just generally enjoy/work on.

I have a strange opinion on this. I dont really like custom or "unique" builds and projects. I really like a factory stock car with some tasteful mods. Like a 6th gen camaro, completely stock looking but with full boltons. Or a C7 stingray with a procharger. I dislike most aftermarket wheels unless they are factory repros and I HATE when people put wheels from higher models on lower models no matter how good they look. Just my opinions.

Get an old school VW and figure out where the new TDI engines are going

There's so many options in this realm, I'll throw an 80s Mitsubishi out there. They did make a 2.6 Turbo engine.

If you want small, get a Festiva and do a 323 Turbo swap in it. Economical

I lean towards the General's stuff, so I'd probably be stuffing an L67 into an early Cavvy or Citation or something if I was bent on FWD and I could find something not rusted away. Fiero would be another option.

Likely not your style, I'm biased towards doing an Astro/Safari van personally. Takes a Small Block Chevy super easy (bolt in with the adapter mounts or minimal fabrication work) cheap, easy to get powertrain parts. As said though a rape van is definitely an acquired taste. The AWDs convert to 4WD super easy (different T-case and axle disconnect from S-10) and they lift well too. Super well.

I've got unique enough projects to where I get a headache trying to source parts. I don't want more unique.

That is why I was okay doing the Lemans. It's kinda sucky for body parts but it takes virtually all standard A-body chassis/engine parts so that's a huge upside.
