I never bought a Dodge until now... let's hope this one doesn't leave me with that impression.

Why does it have to be 255/80-17? Is that the only size that fits without spacers?

That's the easiest size to fit without fitment issues. Getting a shop to install tires on wheels that are too narrow is no easy task anymore either...

So I was trying to be conscious of that as I made my decision.

285 75 17 would be bad ass, but I'd need flares to prevent the rear tires from sticking out the rear fenders... and I really don't want the added expense or strain on the drive train as I turn up the wick on the tune as well.

Like this guy:

He first installed the rears without a spacer (as pictured above), but then later had to go back and install one because the tires were rubbing against each other.

then i read this dude's measurements on his truck, after 2.5" level, and after 285/75-18's... and it's lower than my truck is RIGHT FUCKING NOW

Yeah I've never gone off forums for figuring out that kinda shit. I just head out with a tape measure, make an educated guess as to what will work and then just start cutting away to make it fit if it doesn't lol.

i disagree with that for sure. newer trucks don't have as many "pioneers" of what will work and what won't.

they have people who play it safe trying to keep warranties and be safe with their new expensive ass purchase.

I've had better luck in the recent past on FB pages over forums hands down. There's not as many pioneers, however, there's more people that care about the details or have paid good money to have something done correctly for them and can share offset, sizing, etc when it comes to wheel/tire sizing for example.

too much of a variable, both different 'forums' of collaborating, I think the boards have "more" older more experienced advice, but over the years some of the old timers have finally found fb and of those, some have found the groups and share good stuff but also like @Outlaw mentioned, there are the younger crowd sharing valuable information that own or work at shops with just as good if not better experience.
