Default Chevy Kodiak C4500

Hey guys, I found an 07 locally. I'm considering buying it. Anything in particular I should watch out for? What is the going rate for these things?

Btw, I'm loving the mobile app.

Duramax. Probably the 6.6. I'm waiting for the VIN.

I'll have to ask about the trans.

It has 61k miles.

Oh! Important question! At what point do I need a CDL? Lol. Is it based on weight when I'm hauling something? Or is it based on the vehicle itself?

They're all 6.6's. You need to find out what generation. 07 in the pickup world is an LBZ, which is good. Who knows if that holds true for these though.

Everything I've read says it's a slightly detuned version of the one in the silverados and sierras.

I need to find out if it's a 4x4 or not.

Probably not super helpful, but the interior is all Parts Bin, so those parts are plentiful (Most the interior is Chevy Express Van IIRC).

Also IIRC these are 'tilt forward' front clips aren't they? Probably pretty easy to work on compared to a normal 2500 or 3500.

I've worked on a few. Honestly no different than a Silverado engine wise. The Allison trans is pretty bulletproof. No idea about brakes and suspension stuff though, I would assume expensive though

Fuck working on these things. Lol. Jacking the cab to get the rear injectors out. Lol

Chances are it's the 6.6 but could be the 7.8 Inline Duramax.

Biggest thing with these trucks is the rear gearing. It will make you or break you. Run a calculator to see what rpm you'll be running at which speeds you'll likely use it at

I'll definitely figure out the gearing thing when I go look at it on Monday and get the vin/option info.

The interior shouldn't be parts bin. Its a Monroe package, so that might not be cheap either.

As far as being a DIY guy, I have access to virtually anything I need to work on a Medium Duty truck. My motor pool is setup to handle vehicles MUCH larger than this thing lol.

The engine is van based. So in theory less horses, but the downfall in this application really is going to be the rear end.

Would there be any benefit to buying this and putting a bed on it? Or would that end up more expensive?

Imo this is overkill. I have haulers that drive for a living across country constantly, pulling heavier and bigger than yours, doing it with a pick up dually
