It will technically void the powertrain warranty, however, if you're not going ape shit with mods, I'm not sure what would prompt a dealership to dig into it and find the tune, although it wouldn't be hard if they did decide to look. It's a bigger problem with diesels, as the tuners provide huge power gains and are commonplace among owners. If I was in your shoes, I would tune it and not thing twice.

it's possible to see that newer gm's have been tuned now?

GM was able to trace this back in 08, diesels and all. Saw a modified GTO back then getting its powertrain warranty voided due to PCM tuning and other mods.

As others said, unless you go full retard with engine mods and PCM tuning, they might not pick up on it. It's risk vs reward as to what you think is best.
