At the old omori factory when I went to Japan. Not my photos as they only allowed one person in our group to bring in a camera. A lot of Rb porn in the album also from the engines NISMO buillds. The cool thing was we were with the head engineer for the R33 and R34. Super quiet guy with a lot of knowledge/insight.

Yup. I came close so many times to buying a R32 from TN or from FL, etc. But every time I was at the point of settling on a dollar amount, I remembered that if I ever got caught, the car would be destroyed and that killed all interest.

But now you have them legal and the prices have gone from 19k to your door to 27k...its insane.

I used to work for Insurance Auto Auctions, for about three years. Some of the title trails on cars were epic stories.

I think I heard you can re import by routing it through canada or mexico somehow.

There was this one famous story in the office about a guy that made a replica or something out one those japanese only supercars out of a car that was legal here. Full rebody and everything, imported the parts from a wreck in japan. California didnt believe him and took the car, we got it and were about to sell for export when he finally won something in court.
Seriously, california didnt believe the Vin on the car since the ID's on the rest of the parts didnt match.

Step #1 Fuck California always and especially if trying to import a car.

Step #2 I heard some shady stories about selling salvage title vehicles to Indians and once they are registered on a reservation they can get rid of a salvage title. So basically sell salvaged vehicle to an Indian then buy it back with a clean title. :dunno: if that works but so I've heard from a few people in North Dakota and Minnesota. If it does work I'd have to wonder if it would work for imports too.

California isn't hard to import a car to a port, but to make it legalized to drive by updating the emissions to CARB is the pain in the ass. cost around 12-15k on top of the price of the car usually.
