I haven't read through the entire thread, but one thing to take in consideration is the cost and time commitment to put your car on display. CMC participated last year and will be there again this year. Out of pocket costs for transportation, insurance, etc averaged around $400 per car.

Also, the cars were roped off and we had members at our booth throughout the whole show. I have no doubts about the safety of the cars on display. CMC's cars were secure and had no issues with damage or people getting too close.

$400 per car? where is that figure coming from?

i have a trailer, have a truck, car is fully insured... am i missing some special kind of insurance rider that would be needed?

If you have a truck and trailer, the cost is less. A few of the guys from CMC had to rent trucks and trailers.

If your car is in storage, it would be a good idea to put full coverage back on it for transportation. Depending on how your insurance company works, you may get charged for a month of coverage.

Thanks man This is new territory for us so that's extremely useful information for anyone who may not have a trailer on hand.

Our insurance required for the Cmc booth was $850 for the blanket policy on all the cars (6). Personal policies should have like 72 hour windows you can usually get put back on for transport. Not really necessary to do a whole month.

Feel free to pm me with any questions, would be glad to help.

You had to have insurance through the auto show? Or just your personal insurance?

Auto show requires the booth/club to have a policy

Thats not entirely correct. Actually the show cars must maintain liability and comprehensive for the duration of the show. The liability covers the same as anywhere- if a particular car causes damage, the individual policy covers that.

In addition the club must provide a special events liability policy. This covers any liability of the club members. Basically it covers if the club or a club member causes damage to the auto show in general. The price quoted for the special events policy is pretty accurate.

You're also welcome to contact me as well regarding this.

Storage insurance is usually just comprehensive, correct? So one would just have to add liability and not collision?

IMHO...this is a big fawkin deal. TCG needs to find the absolute cleanest unique babied bad ass mofo show worthy vehicles. If you are planning to drive your car to this you will be doing TCG a disservice. Your car will look like shit for millions to see. The vehicles picked need to be detailed starting right now!!! Tires off and clean the inside of the rims type of clean. Spotless!!! Can't state this enough.

If any of you have ever competed at a big car show level based on points, you know what I am talking about .e.g.World of wheels/Autorama, Chevey Vettefest. Not just enter the show, but win at top show level. Detailing for a show is very hard work.

Who ever is picking, pick the best of the best and make TCG proud to say they are part of The Chicago Garage.

Easy, right?

I did wow twice, both times got second place in my class, each event cost me roughly $500 with a 1 night stay, cleaning and detailing the car took a good solid 80 hours. stopped doing show bc of how long it took to clean everything, drag car there, set it up, clean it for 4 days, drag it all back home.

I still have the Z and might be interested but I don't have any means to transport it to the show. Let me know when there are more details.

I ended up renting a unit because the inlaws couldnt understand why I couldnt leave the cars out for a couple nights. They thought i just gave them a quick wash and ready to show.
I tell everyone how amazed I am, get the Trans Am ready for a show, get there spend 3-4 hours getting it ready for the judges. Head back, cover it. Next week pull the cover off, and the damn thing is dirty again. Repeat all summer long....lol
