Questions on buying a car via ebay and out of state

Hi

I found a project car on ebay that I like out in cali. Talked to the guy and he did give me the "good" and the "bad" of the car. Asked for some high res pics and a video.

Has anyone bought a car via ebay out of state without going to see it?

What steps did you take to ensure you were not ripped off or scammed?

I know its kinda a gamble but I would like to minimize the risks, so I am looking for advise from others who have done this before.

ask every. fucking. question. you can imagine... ask for photos of everything... absolutely everything... and go through ebay..

if you go through ebay... then you have them on your side.

I think there are services that do this type of thing.

Where in Cali? I know a few people out there that I could have them check it out. YOu'd have to flip them a bit of cash.

Its only 12k. I was thinking about ordering a vehicle inspection from ebay but I wasnt sure how good they are.

would there be a model specific forum for this vehicle ?
if so, you may be able to ask a local member to check it out.

for example... there's a guy in TENN thats been asking me ?s about my dads vette for 3 weeks.
he could ask a fellow corvette forum member in our area to check it out and report back.

Its a 65 Lincoln so I was going to look at the Lincoln forums but I also want to get advise on purchasing experiences like this.
